Not Just Another Movie

I could not say less but "great work!" after watching the two films. I first thought it would be just another movie made for shallow entertainment. But the films, both of which run for more than 2 hours definitely received my praises and apparently, it would also receive one from anyone who'd watch.

3 IDIOTS

To tag it as a comedy film is an understatement. It is fun, definitely! More than just entertainment, it also brought inspiration.
No doubt it is Bollywood's highest grossing movies of all time and I thank my brother, Jek in introducing this to me.

What struck me most was the movie's main character's (Rancho) line, "Make your passion your profession". Indeed. And yes, it may be, that when you do just that, work will be game. What more could be a better job than that? And yes, again like what Rancho said, "Pursue excellence and success will follow." Because we don't really want to chase success for if we do, the world will be nothing but..rat race.

The film opens with Farhan and Raju hearing news of Rancho being found by a college competitor, Chatur. En route to find Rancho, clips from their college adventures and misadventures narrates the life lessons they learn from a friend who's genius was created not just from academic and conventional learning. Rancho's (and that of his two friends) character was simply an inspiration.

TAARE ZAMEEN PAR (Every Child is Special)

The title itself already suggests it would be a heart-warming movie. And it didn't fail me as it did to all of us who watched. I remember my niece being emotional during the first half of the film where it portrays Ishaan (the main character) struggling in school and in life while nobody really understands why, until the art teacher, Nikumbh, from his new school discovers he has dyslexia.

The teacher's unselfish commitment to help Ishaan overcome his difficulty and to bring back hope in the child's eyes covers the second half of the movie's plot. And toward's the end of the movie, it shows Ishaan winning both the prize from the art competition he topped and the praises of those that once judged his capabilities. In that art competition, teacher Nikumbh lost over his student, Ishaan. But what greater achievement could replace winning love and respect, which Nikumbh earned without question.

My favorite line in one of the movie's soundtrack: "You find your purpose in finding your happiness" (translated in English). This is simply true.

Both 3 Idiots and Every Child is Special stars Aamir Khan, the latter, being his direction and production as well.
